Press Release

Hi-Tech Revolution meets online comics

October 21, 2009

The green revolution has begun on the roads. Soon, the first electric cars from the company Better Place will arrive in Israel and will help reduce oil consumption and pollution. Through the comics medium, the creators of the three-page story, "Unmasked: The Green Prince", Inbal Freund-Novick and Chari Pere, bring to life the story of electric cars, and of its torch bearer, Shai Agassi, to the wider crowd. The comic is launched in time for the Israeli Presidential Conference Facing Tomorrow, the annual global conference initiated in 2008 by President Shimon Peres. At the opening event of the conference, the issue of electric cars was mentioned a few times as one of the most important revolutions in technology that is happening now in Israel. A fourth page will be launched on October 23, during the White House's call for national service week (October 19-26) in the United States.

"Unmasked: The Green Prince", is the second in a series of comic stories for social and environmental change, inspired by the genre of political cartoons, such as: "Waltz with Bashir," "Maus" and "Persepolis". Through this genre, creators Inbal Freund-Novick and Chari Pere hope to bring social and environmental issues to crowds that weren't previously exposed to them. The first comic in the series, "Unmasked: The Story of Ariella Dadon", told the story of a brave woman denied of a get (Jewish divorce document), who is currently an activist for women who are in the same situation. The publication of this comic brought thousands of viewers to the website and an overwhelming number of fantastic reviews in the media and on the internet.

"The proposed model for serious environmental change of Better Place inspired us," says Inbal Freund-Novick. "The innovative model that Shai Agassi proposes is a real change for the environment and the future." "We're telling a story that's so well documented and publicized and are re-telling it in an exciting, innovative and creative way for a broad audience. It's exciting to see the power of comics in (social) action."
